Elder Abuse Prevention and Response: Our Fifth Health and Long Term Care Ambassador Training

January 21, 2018

Our fifth Ambassadors training was another success. It was conducted by two prominent lawyers specializing in Elder Abuse Law.

Their presentations underlined the very damaging impact of elder abuse not only on the older persons but the nation as a whole. It is estimated that 5 million individual experience abuse and or neglect, resulting in $5.3 billion in healthcare
cost and $2.9 billion in losses due to financial exploitation.

They clearly explained the meaning of elder abuse and neglect and its many types: including sexual, physical, psychological and financial abuse. These crimes
are often under-reported since most often they are committed by persons who are family members or friends and older the older persons do not wish to report their loved ones, or those they depend on, or due to memory loss. We learned about ElderSafe Center and the many resources available to assist older victims of abuse. We also learned how to detect Scams and their different forms and how to report them.

A very big thank you to our Trainers and Sponsor:
