Memory Loss, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s Disease - Our Sixth Health and Long Term Care Ambassador Training

February 23, 2018

Our sixth Ambassadors Training was a success Aln Hamdullilah.  Ana Nelson's presentation on memory loss, Dementia, and Alzheimer's Disease was comprehensive and took us through the many possible reasons for memory loss, the signs and  types of dementia, the stages of Alzheimer's as well as other neurological diseases. We found out that these neurological conditions can affect younger and older persons alike and have traumatic impact on their caregivers and their quality of life..

How to detect them and get them diagnosed correctly is very important. Ana, explained how to communicate with those with advanced stages of Alzheimer's and Dementia and how to find the needed resources to support the patients as well as the caregivers. But most of all how to stay mentally healthy and alert for as long as possible.

We were provided with a table full of resources and guides to help us better understand and navigate the support system. Ana also offered our Ambassadors the opportunity to get a special training and become volunteers for the Alzheimer's Association.  Many took the information and will follow up.

A big thank you to our Trainer and to our Sponsor:

Trainer: Ana Nelson – Vice President, Alzheimer’s Association

Sponsor and AMSS Partner: The Islamic Society of the Washington Area
